About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Aston Villa secured a convincing 2-0 victory over West Ham United in their Premier League clash at Villa Park. The result was a testament to Villa's solid form, as they entered the match with a series of strong performances, while West Ham struggled to find consistency. The game started with Aston Villa taking control early on. John McGinn (GAP +1.2%) opened the scoring in the 15th minute, setting the tone for the home side. Villa's dominance continued throughout the match, with Ollie Watkins (GAP +2.5%) doubling their lead in the 68th minute, effectively sealing the win. In terms of tactical adjustments, Aston Villa made three changes to their starting lineup compared to their previous match. Matty Cash (GAP +5.0%), Jadon Sancho (GAP +0.8%), and Pau Torres (GAP +3.9%) were brought into the starting eleven, replacing Tyrone Mings, Emiliano Buendia, and Lamare Bogarde. These changes seemed to bolster Villa's defensive solidity and attacking prowess. West Ham, on the other hand, made a single change, with Freddie Potts coming in for the suspended Jean-Clair Todibo. Emiliano Martinez (GAP +2.9%) was instrumental in goal for Aston Villa, ensuring a clean sheet with several key saves. His performance was crucial in maintaining Villa's lead and thwarting any potential comeback from West Ham. The victory sees Aston Villa continue their push up the Premier League table, building momentum as they aim for a strong finish to the season. West Ham, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their inconsistencies if they are to improve their league standing. Post-match reactions highlighted the effectiveness of Villa's tactical setup and the impact of their key players. The home team's manager praised the squad's discipline and execution, while West Ham's head coach acknowledged the need for improvement in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
